Donor Identification & POPIA Compliance
1. Information We Collect
As part of our donor application and screening process, Cape Fertility may collect and process certain personal information from you, including:
Full name, contact details, and demographic information.
Health and medical history.
Educational background and personal characteristics relevant to the donor program.
A copy of your South African ID or passport, which is used solely to verify your identity and maintain an accurate, validated donor profile.
All personal information is collected lawfully, fairly, and only for purposes directly related to your participation as a donor in the Cape Fertility Egg Donation Programme.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your personal and identification information for the following legitimate purposes:
To verify your identity and eligibility as an egg donor.
To maintain accurate donor records for internal compliance and matching purposes.
To ensure the authenticity and integrity of all donor profiles on file.
To comply with medical, ethical, and legal obligations as required by South African law.
Your ID or passport will never be used for marketing or shared with any third party without your explicit consent, unless required by law.
3. How We Store and Protect Your Information
Your ID or passport copy is stored in a secure, access-controlled database environment.
Only authorised Cape Fertility personnel involved in the donor programme have access to these records.
Digital records are stored on secure servers; including data center security, 24/7 guards and biometric access, network and server-level protection such as DDoS mitigation, firewalls, and intrusion prevention, and website-level security with built-in ModSecurity Web Application Firewall (WAF), free SSL certificates, and spam filtering. Account security is enhanced with mandatory two-factor authentication for the control panel. Physical copies (if any) are kept in locked facilities.
We retain your ID or passport only for as long as necessary to fulfil the purpose for which it was collected, after which it will be permanently deleted or destroyed in a secure manner.
4. Your Rights Under POPIA
Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (Act 4 of 2013), you have the right to:
Request access to the personal information we hold about you.
Request correction, updating, or deletion of your personal information.
Withdraw consent for processing your personal information, subject to legal and contractual limitations.
Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator if you believe your personal data has been mishandled.

5. Consent
By submitting your application and uploading your ID or passport copy, you confirm that you:
Have read and understood this Privacy Policy; and
Consent to Cape Fertility collecting, processing, and securely storing your identification information in accordance with POPIA and the purposes described above.
